Slight Change of Plans

So yesterday Brooks, Natalie and I arrived at J's place up in Silverthorne around 11:30pm. We played a game of Catan with J's two roommates, Jeremy and Jeff, and then started discussing plans for the following day. After hearing that Wolf Creek had received 41" over the past 48 hours (21" over the last 24 hours) my decision was made. I ended up making the four and a half hour drive with Jeff and Jeremy right then - 3:00am so that we could get there by the time the lifts opened.
Even though we were exhausted, the trip was well worth it, as I would easily put it in my top 3 skiing days of all time. The only knock on Wolf Creek is the lack of vertical terrain and the traversing that you have to make to get back to the lifts. However, the good far outweighed the bad - no crowds, awesome weather, great snow, and a down to earth feel to the resort.
When we got home I immediately hit the hot tub, then watched a Most Evil before heading to bed. All in all it was a great trip, even though 13.5/24 hours were spent in the car. Jeremy took a couple videos of us on his phone, so I'll look into getting those from him if/when possible.

Monday Night Fever

Now that football is over I need something else to become addicted to. Outside of Puerto Rico, Call of Duty, and Mario Kart I've decided to add bowling to the list. I joined my friends' team and we kicked some ass last night. I bowled a 231, 189, and 223! We ended up winning 17 out of 21 possible points, plus it was double points night, so we ended up raking in 34/42 points. Yes, I'm a huge dork.

It's been dumping up in the mountains over the last few days, so I'm going up to Vail tomorrow to ski with Brooks, Jeremy, and Natalie. I can't decide whether I should head up tonight or tomorrow morning - maybe if they want to play Puerto Rico and tub it then I'll head up tonight. Anyway, the Mario Kart is calling my name, so I have to run.

Oh, p.s. if you haven't heard the Mario Kart Love Song, it's like the best song ever

Puerto Rico

No, not the country. Puerto Rico is one of the best board games I've ever played, which definitely says a lot. I'd describe it as a mix between Chess and The Settlers of Catan (which is also an amazing board game).
I get addicted to things very easily, so it came as no surprise to many of my friends to find out that I had even outlined several Puerto Rico strategies on an Excel Spreadsheet. I even found a strategy guide (well, I didn't - Moon found it) written by someone far more knowledgeable about the game than myself. Pretty interesting stuff, really. Right now I'm still exploring new and improved ideas, but I've got a lot of the basic game theory down. The frustrating, yet awesome, thing about the game is that a lot of times you will make a move and then realize that you made the wrong play shortly thereafter.
I think the thing I like most about the game is that it gets me fired up to play poker. Anyway, if you see me at IHOP at 4:00 in the morning, you'll know what got the best of me ;)
